About Our Speaker
Lord Andrew Stunell was the Member of Parliament for Hazel Grove from the General Election in 1997 until he stood down as an MP in 2015. During coalition talks in 2010, he was part of the Liberal Democrats team along with Danny Alexander, Chris Huhne and David Laws that negotiated the coalition agreement with the Conservatives. From 2010 to 2012 he was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government. He led the working group that produced the Lib Dem policy paper 'Making Migration Work for Britain'. Andrew Stunell was made a Life Peer in October 2015, taking the title Baron Stunell of Hazel Grove in the County of Greater Manchester. He will be sharing stories and experiences from his time in Parliament, and providing key insights for those of us campaigning in Wales.
The main building was built around 1550 for Dafydd ap Richard and was designed to be easily defended during the turbulent reigns of the Tudor kings and queens. It is one of the finest examples of a semi-fortified manor, and is listed in the top 100 visitor attractions in Wales. The Manor House has been fully restored and furnished as it would have been in 1645. Our guests will be able to take a guided tour around the Manor starting promptly at 7pm. Our two course dinner will held be in the Conservatory from 8pm, and there is a pay bar available on site.
